Although once nearly extinct due to habitat destruction and overhunting for its exotic tail feathers, the superb lyrebird is now regarded as common in its native environment. The Albert's lyrebird's Vulnerable status, facing a high risk of extinction, is somewhat more precarious due to its more restricted habitat, but careful protection measures have helped to stabilize its population sizes.
